Middlewich Machinery Professional Zero-Turn Mowers

Zero turn mowers are ideal and among the best ways of keeping on top your lawn growth and care needs.
These are a ride-on type of mower that can make any lawn mowing experience quicker, more accurate and gets the job done.

What is a zero-turn mower?

While other mowers are on the market, the unique selling point of this type of mower is that they can turn at virtually a zero-degree angle radius.
This makes then perfect for challenging pitches or greens, or very landscaped areas and gardens.

How does a zero-turn mower work?

The drive wheels of a zero-turn mower are usually controlled by two independent wheel motors. As one drives forward, the other moves in reverse, which enables the mower to turn in a zero-degree radius.

What does a zero-turn mower cost?

New ones can cost from around £4,000 to £5,000 upwards.
We can advise as to the best types for productivity, manoeuvrability, capability and power.

Health and Safety

Zero-turn mowers are tricky to drive and lots of practice is needed! Rather than a steering wheel, this vehicle is operated by levers.
There are some steering wheel options available.
These types of mowers can travel faster than other mowers, and they have larger mowing decks so more lawn is covered when in use.
You can get a residential variety which is battery driven; however, this is not as powerful and is not recommended for the commercial or professional user.

What Other Aspects Do I Need to Know?

Zero-turn mowers can be greedy on fuel. This also means there is more maintenance overall.

You will also need to consider the type of terrain you’re looking after.
If its hilly, or steep, then you’ll need more horsepower and 24hp is usually a minimum. This would also mean the mower should have a larger fuel tank so it can cover the ground easily.
If you have up to three acres of land to care for, a cutting deck measuring around 42-inches should be enough.
Here at Middlewich Machinery, we can advise which one would be best for you.
Healthy and Safety

As with all types of agricultural equipment, all vehicles must be maintained carefully and in excellent working order.
Zero-turn mowers have a roll-over protection structure (ROPS) which helps protect the drive if the mower overturns.
Speed in definitely not a selling point of a zero-turn mower as it has a top mph of around seven!
Also remember zero-turn mowers can be pretty heavy and you should take this into consideration when purchasing one. They can weigh up to 900 pounds and this means you’ll need to be able to lift it safely (i.e., with a suitable jack) for maintenance and repairs.
