Peter Hough with the team
Peter Hough - Groundcare Machinery Expert and owner of Middlewich Machinery

My name is Peter Hough

I am the owner and director of Middlewich Machinery
I set up Middlewich Machinery when I was just 19. It was just me, my van, my spanner and my determination that got the business ‘off the ground’.

How It All Began …

The world of turf care has always been fascinating to me. I studied Land Based Technology at Reaseheath College, near Nantwich, Cheshire. This gave me in-depth knowledge of the subject which formed a solid backdrop to my work. Then my passion for excellent turf care came with I began my first full time role with an agricultural and plant dealer. This job gave me so much valuable and trustworthy experience.

Then It Was On To The Fairway … My next role that was an inspiration and was one that opened a new chapter. I worked for High Legh Golf Course in Knutsford, an 18-hole championship course and 9-hole academy course. This expanded and developed my knowledge and understanding of turf and grounds care. I was then bitten by the turf care bug.

Building A National Loyal Customer Base

At the start, I undertook agricultural and horticultural work and then any time I had was spent on the golf course, this time as a keen player! Good golfing comes with lots of dedicated practice. It’s the same with grounds care. The best care, attention to detail and great preparation will always provide an enviable finish. Expertise and experience also play their parts in achieving excellent results.

Following My Instincts

I am fanatical about grounds care. I have always followed my instincts and they nudged me to develop my interest in the golf course itself. All golfers and golf clubs will know how important the gold itself is to the outcomes of a round of this most revered of sports. From the fairway to the tee to the green itself, the bunkers, the grain of the grass, all these affect the outcome of a round or two.

An Olympic Year

Back in 2012, the year of the London Olympics, I focused my turf care machinery business onto golf courses and sports clubs. Of course, all this has absolutely nothing to do with finding the countless golf balls I’ve lost trying to improve my handicap!
